PETE GLEASON CONGRATULATES MARGARET CHIN
Pete Gleason did not achieve the primary goal of ousting an entrenched incumbent - and winning. But the next best was achieved - the 8-year incumbent Alan Gerson was ousted and Margaret Chin won.
Pete's candidacy was a lightning rod in the downtown political universe. He took on a firmly entrenched politician and tenaciously uncovered the improprieties, lies and disorganization tied to that incumbent. Despite political and media machine tactics set in place to discredit Pete, he doggedly fought on for transparency and new government. Pete Gleason took the bullets for daring to challenge the status quo of incompetency and corruption.
Pete Gleason strongly congratulates Margaret Chin on her victory and he and his supporters give her their full support. She will be a fighter for the people as Pete has been.
Pete Gleason believes Margaret will look to tackle the issues that have been his platform from the beginning:
- Build the WTC Memorial with pedestrian pathways to Chinatown, Little Italy and the South St. Seaport, with Park Row reopened.
- No new residential development unless funds are set aside for classroom seats.
- Lobby to maintain services to small business like the Post Office.
- Streamline NYC business permits and application.
- Get City Hall to stop harassing our small businesses as a revenue source.
- End shadowy City Council slush funds.
- The building of affordable housing on the Seward Park site.
- Preserve existing affordable housing in NYCHA, Mitchell-Lama and
middle-income developments like Independence Plaza and Gateway Plaza.
- Fight against demolition by neglect forcefully.
*** Never vote to extend your own term limits or to vote on your own raise.
Sincere congratulations to Margaret Chin on her hard-earned victory.
