PETE GLEASON ENDORSED BY UNIFORMED FIREFIGHTERS UNION
Pete Gleason, progressive Democrat for City Council in the hotly contested First City Council District, recently won endorsement by the Uniformed
Firefighters Association of Greater New York, Local 94 I.A.F.F. AFL-CIO, representing over 20,000 active and retired firefighters.
Gleason was pleased to receive the UFA 's support. "Firefighters get the job done. Unlike endorsements from other elected officials, my brothers at
the UFA know what kind of job I'll do." Gleason continued, "When a building is on fire, the FDNY responds without complaint or calculation,
risks their lives, and put out the fire. That's how I approached my job as a firefighter, and that's how I'll fight for Lower Manhattan at City Hall."
A decorated 10-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, Gleason is a highly-respected member of the union. Gleason retired from the FDNY
in 1996 after suffering severe back injuries. Since that time, Gleason has used his skills as a firefighter and arson investigator in his legal
career. Last week Gleason exposed a major asbestos scandal in New York schools. Representing a Dept. of Education whistleblower, Gleason shot
video proving real danger to New York schoolchildren - and a cover-up on behalf of the DOE.
WABC 7-TV aired some of the footage last week. The Video can be found at: http://pete2009.com/news/abc7.html
Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, Local 94 joins Former Borough President Freddy Ferrer, The New York Community Council, the New York
Metro Area Postal Union and the Downtown Independent Democrats in supporting Pete Gleason's campaign.
